Extend the Data Center Moratorium

Fight Back Against Data Centers in Madison!

Corporations like Meta, Microsoft, Blackstone, and many others all have their eyes on Madison to be another prospective hub for the growth of their tech empire. In just a few months, their opportunities grow dramatically when the Madison data center moratorium—which prohibits issuing zoning approvals for new data centers with a floor area of more than 10,000 square feet—expires. The existing moratorium is set to expire on January 24, 2027, and under the new city proposal, facilities of up to 100,000 square feet would be permitted within Madison's jurisdiction, which are proven threats to our health, environment, and economy, and set a greater precedent for the growth of big tech in our city. Additionally, all space occupied by these facilities in the city of Madison is space unable to be utilized for things to genuinely serve working people of the city, such as affordable housing and community spaces. That is why we have launched a campaign aiming to extend Madison’s data center moratorium by one calendar year so as to build community support for a broader, more sustained anti-data center struggle.
